MAISON KITSUNE SEES PEOPLES
The announcement of an exclusive capsule collection between Maison Kitsune and Oliver Peoples seemed only natural as the two brands, driven by a similar aesthetic and minimal design theory, collaborate on what is Kitsune’s first eyewear design endeavor. Masaya Kuroki, cofounder of Kitsune, sought out the California based Oliver Peoples because of the distinct craftsmanship and impeccable quality of the luxury brand. Kuroki elaborates, “We were really excited to work with Oliver Peoples, a brand whose savoir-faire and expertise are highly inspiring.”
The collection includes two frame designs, “Tokyo” and “Paris,” and were influenced by Larry Leight’s, Oliver Peoples Founder and Creative Director, favorite cities. He explains, “I have always loved traveling to Paris and Tokyo. They are two cities that have been truly inspiring to me.” As for the collaboration between his brand and Kitsune, “I have great respect for Maison Kitsune and was excited to work together on their first venture into eyewear.”
The Oliver Peoples x Maison Kitsune collection is shaped by two vintage styles that are reminiscent of the 1950’s, yet still distinctly modern. The Tokyo model is a unisex frame featuring a retro, antique inspired gold plaque with a keyhole bridge. It is available in three classic colors, Black, Golden Light Tortoise and 8108, a custom Oliver Peoples gradient hue. The Tokyo offers an innovative removable clip-on sunglass accessory available in complementary color lenses.
The Paris is an elegant, feminine slightly oversized frame with an upswept rounded shape and vintage pin detailing. Flattering on just about every face shape, the Paris is available in a variety of progressive color pairings, for example Dark tortoise acetate with Green Mirror lenses, a modernized spin on a classic.
Both the Tokyo and Paris frames are also available in a fourth variant, Vintage Brown Tortoise, which will be sold in limited quantities exclusively at Oliver Peoples and Maison Kitsune boutiques.
The launch of this special edition eyewear will coincide with the new Maison Kitsune boutique opening in Tokyo, February 14th, 2013, along with debuting in their stores in Paris and New York and all of the Oliver Peoples boutiques globally.
