Maison Kitsuné X NBA Tour Visits New York City
Kitsuné Co-founders Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki continue their exploration of curious collaborations as they partner with the NBA for a first-time capsule collection, and recollection of memories playing basketball while growing-up.
The entirety of the 15-piece unisex capsule is made in Japan, and it’s colors are strictly derived from the asphalt, cement, and steel of a street or playground. Styles range from the more sports inspired– logo-printed tees, cotton jogging pants and sweatshirts– to casual wear more akin to Kitsune’s core offering– such as a black, bleached denim jacket, a stripe and check patchwork button-down and a nylon, logo-emblazoned coach jacket. The Kitsuné America compilation series joined the collaboration with a vinyl compilation of tracks from hip-hop to electronic, and with the brand’s beloved reputation of music curation, it’s certainly worth a listen. The block-lettered capsule logo also stretches across a canvas tote, and it’s perfectly sized for carrying your records.
To celebrate the collection launch, The Kitsuné X NBA Tour was announced to visit 8 cities across the country, ‘tipping off’ in Los Angeles to coincide with the NBA All-Star Weekend Game held at the Staples Center. For the tour’s New York stop, a launch event was held at the Maison Kitsuné New York boutique which opened last fall at 248 Lafayette Street. Lead by French Designer Mathieu Lehanneur, the store’s interior is pleasantly mirrored, and light, with a system of metal tubes twisting through the minimalist space in the form of garment racks, lighting fixtures, and furniture stands. The attendees who filled the space were an amalgamation of fashion’s devout and habitué of the store, fans of the brand’s music label, as well as of the NBA. A club night followed at Le Bain at the Top of The Standard with performers and DJs including Flamingosis, Disco Shrine, and Yacine. Familiar faces from the store event were seen at Le Bain, as followers of the Kitsuné label banded together for a spirited, two-part night.
