HAPPY ENDING
The stunning Meredith Mickelson breathes life into the storied Lower East Side club HAPPY ENDING. Aptly named, the once-massage parlor lives on as the stomping grounds of downtown club kids, the fashion crowd, and anyone who wishes to clamor in its irreverent attitude. Her twisting movements become a racy blur against retro stripes and deco carpeting. Her opulent style is as much the center of attention as she is. A leather Versace trench coat is tightly clasped as the wandering curiosity of partygoers peeks. Geometric heels stamp down against a patent leather couch. Swaths of thick white cloth folds and unfolds atop an arabesque rug. A touch parvenu, and not bored with class, her lavish garments of creams and furs serve as the backdrop onto which ritzy, red jewels fall. Warm lighting replaces a glistening disco ball in perfect accordance with the morning sun, as it stumbles above the horizon, outside of the dim, windowless dive. But she isn’t worried, for the club won’t close– it doesn’t close– it only happily ends, and only when she decides to vanish under the flickering red exit sign marking the back door.
