Alexander McQueen Pre-fall collection 2020
Shown to editors in London in February before the world became a scary and confusing place. Sara burtons new pre-fall collection is now out, the question is with it having been designed and created so early on; does it work in the current world?
I would like to check in on Burtons psychic ability; because the current pre-fall collection now on sale is a welcoming, comforting and surprisingly fitting add into our current; shall we call it reckoning? Warrior ready.
Deep suiting, ominous yet so powerful, Feminine Power is the true running theme in this collection. Look to the leather trench worn as a dress bringing all the matrix, superhero feelings. Adorned in this I could picture myself ready to save the world. How appropriate!
The mix and fluidity of masculine and feminine energy is as always with McQueen, perfect. Embellished gowns resemble an almost armour with structural silver capes (yet another super-hero reference; Is Burton simply telling us all we can save the world by just doing our part.)
These references to a trojan, roman gladiator attire see the perfect protection we need to survive this war on our world.
Look for the juxtaposition between the raw, stripped back with the outlandish, textural.
The campaign shot in a bare and eerily empty landscape; an insight into nature, the beginning, the core of the world. Anyone else seeing a much more glamourous version of their months on end in isolation and lockdown? If only I was taking these days dressed in metallic deep purple suits and epic red one-armed gowns of power with oversized waist cinching belts. Further If I was taking my daily walk in the most eye-catching black sandals with oval gold-plated heel and gold ankle clasp, I think perhaps I would happily stay in this glory for the foreseeable future.
All in all; McQueen has given us the most powerful and strong attire to get through this time of uncertainty and attack. And to get through it looking like the strong, fighter we all are.
