TWELV DIARY #27: Anastasia Standrik

New Years Eve celebrations have always been my favorite because they made me feel like some grandiose change is bound to happen in my life with the change of the last digit in current the date. But my habit of desperately reaching for a different ‘better’ future is certainly not a ‘zen’ way to live my life. I’m proud to say that NYE 2015 felt different because I’m finally starting to learn to live in the present. Finding things that are right about my life today rather than dwelling in expectations for the future is significantly more enjoyable.

I learned this the hard way when I moved to New York from Moscow where I lived my entire life to study acting at NYU Tisch. Leaving Russia to live in the City has been my dream for as long as I can remember. But new groups of friends, acting jobs, modeling contracts and even classes did not exactly immediately line up the way I wanted. So I struggled… A lot... Trying not to hate the city I have dreamed so much of. It took a while but eventually I realized that solution to all my problems lies in my head. However banal it might sound but focusing on the present did make me a genuinely happier person. And before I noticed, all these things I so badly needed as soon as I moved started coming true, just with a slight delay. The secret was as simple as to stop expecting and just keep doing what I love in the place I adore and enjoy what I have today.

So all I can say is live in the moment and Happy New Year!! Xxx
