ALMOST FAMOUS #8: CHRISTIAN SIRIANO PREVIEW EVENT & OTHERS

June 12, 2014 5:37 PM

There is something quite fresh and comforting about the cobblestone streets and delicate architecture of Soho. As I walk down the city sidewalks in my nude-colored heels and floral printed dress, I find myself feeling as if I fall more in love with Soho each time I am there. I admire the window displays of designer studios and charming boutiques, before finding my way into a quaint coffee shop. After a satisfying latte, I am off to the next event. Located on 252 Elizabeth Street, I arrive to designer Christian Siriano’s studio with his name in white writing on a black banner staring back at me. Two stunning models pose as mannequins in the window display wearing the designer’s pieces from the Resort 2015 collection.  I hastily make my way to the racks displaying the pieces from the new collection. Siriano was inspired by the work of painter Teil Duncan. Duncan’s pieces display vibrant colors but with soft movement, thus recognizably embodied in the designer’s collection. The Resort 2015 collection exhibits structural pieces though with great fluidity, as well as prints of organic florals and brocades in shades of lime, tangerine, and vibrant pink. As a lover of embroidery, I admire a pointed, block heel dressed in black and white with hints of green, sitting upon a shelf displaying the accessories of the collection. Another embroidered piece that caught my attention immediately was a floor length black and white gown with floral applique upon the sleeves. After admiring so many pieces of the collection and taking pictures with Christian, I continue to realize how fortunate I am. As a designer, Siriano’s passion is apparent and his personality shines through the work he creates.  I have followed the spunky and visibly- talented designer and the journey of his career for a few years now and to be able to have him personally thank me for coming to view his work was truly amazing.

PR ASSISTANT FOR TWELV MAGAZINE/ FASHION MERCHANDISING STUDENT

Fashion is more than just a passion of mine; I believe it is a lifestyle. As a fashion student, I learn about the industry not only in class but also through experiences off campus. I am chasing my dreams just as I chase the next 1 Train or a taxi going off to my next adventure. The vibrant energy of this city only fuels my passion even more. I feel beyond blessed to be creating a life I have dreamed of since I was a little girl, amongst a city full of dreamers as well.
